Motion

A moving shot that repeats perfectly.

We ran the motion base and the Bolt X together on a recent Netflix production, locked to one clock, so the platform motion, the camera move and the lighting fired on the same frame take after take.

What the project needed

A dynamic sequence that had to be shot on stage, held to the frame across multiple passes, and delivered clean enough for the VFX team to build on.

The approach and the build

  • The 6DOF platform carried the rig and drove the physical motion in sync with the virtual scene.
  • The Bolt X held the camera through the move, programmed on Flair and repeatable to the frame.
  • Our own framework locked the platform, the camera robot and the lighting to one clock, so every pass matched.
  • Move data went into Unreal, so the real and virtual cameras ran together and the VFX team got a camera track.

Motion, camera and light on one clock

Frame sync is what let the sequence repeat exactly, pass after pass.

The outcome

The sequence was captured on stage with the motion, the camera and the light matched on every take, and handed on with camera data the VFX team could work directly from.
