A script becomes moving shots.

Previz turns a script into moving shots before anyone reaches the floor. It is a rough, watchable version of the film built in 3D, where blocking, camera, timing, and coverage are worked out while changes still cost nothing.

Why it matters

You see how a scene plays, how the camera moves, and how the cut flows, all before a set is built or a crew is called. Directors and heads of department use it to lock decisions early, so the shoot day executes a plan instead of finding one.

The whole point of previz is getting the storytelling right. Because of that it is an iterative process. We expect to make corrections, try alternatives, and refine a scene across several passes until it reads the way the director wants. Every one of those changes happens here, where it is quick and cheap, rather than on set.

What we build

  • Animatics and animated sequences from the script or boards.
  • Virtual blocking of talent, camera, and set.
  • Camera, lens, and move worked out shot by shot.
  • High-fidelity 3D assets where a shot needs the detail.
  • Coverage and shot analysis so the day is planned, not discovered.

Step 02 of 03

Script becomes moving shots, then a shoot plan.

Iterate: block, review, refine
  1. 01 Script The script, or a script with storyboards. Boards, if provided, mean the shots are already blocked.
  2. 02 Where MergeXR works Previz Blocking, camera and timing resolved in 3D, from board to Unreal. Iterative, until the story reads right. A change here costs nothing.
  3. 03 Shoot The floor executes an approved plan. Assets and camera data carry through to techviz and set.

How it runs

What we start with decides the path. Clients normally give us a script, or a script together with storyboards. Either way, nothing moves to animation until the blocking is signed off, so the final previz reflects decisions the client has already approved.

If we receive a script only

  • We break the script down scene by scene and shot by shot.
  • We block the shots in 3D: where talent stands, where the camera sits, how it moves.
  • We show this blocking to the client for approval.
  • Once the blocking is approved, we move to full animation of the shots and the camera moves.

If storyboards come with the script

  • The shots are already blocked on the boards, which makes the work faster.
  • We translate those boards into 3D and refine them: camera, timing, and moves.
  • We show the refined version for approval, then finish the animation.

What you get

  • Animatics and edit-ready sequences.
  • Shot lists and camera data.
  • Assets that carry through to techviz and the shoot.
